  1. India is now on the threshold of moving towards a unified goods and service tax (GST) regime. However, the policy documents issued by the government so far indicate that motor fuel would remain outside the purview of GST. Since the very concept of GST is to ensure a seamless flow of tax credits at every stage of the value chain to increase efficiency and reduce the overall cost of production, keeping motor fuel outside the purview of GST could be counterproductive.
